Social media and mobile phones

Letters

YOUR story on page 4 of June 14 “Social media blamed for underaged girls marrying”, has to be a wake-up call for parents and authorities.
The story is of a 24-year-old having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl.
The young man (named) was probably unfairly done in the report that he “…, is to stand trial for raping a 15-yaer old schoolgirl”, (second column, second paragraph). The story also indicated that the teenager consented to sex with a view to getting married eventually to the man.
And they have engaged in the act previously more than once. The word “rape” may have been lazily used here.
The writer would do well to inform readers that underage girls are more prone to be lured in social media and mobile phones into sex by older man, and not always into early marriages.
Teenage pregnancy will almost always resulted from this extra marital relationship.
The circumstances surrounding this relationship is of insecurity felt by the girl. However, nowadays, teenage girls are more apt to using their smart phones in public than boys. Teenage girls will try to show off in public their smart phone more than teen age boys.
Teenage girls will always depicts themselves in social media as having the time of their lives.
Teenage girls will always want to be seen and sound in public as having a phone conversation with a male.
In essence, our teenage girls are attracting attention to themselves for all the wrong reasons.
Social media has already been blamed for poor learning.
It would be good to have studies made into the use of social media and mobile phones amongst our Y generations and impacts it made in their lives.
