EIGHT associations have confirmed their participation at this year’s National Softball championships in Kokopo in April.

Papua New Guinea Softball Federation senior vice president Ralph Tarasomo confirmed yesterday that the host organising committee was all set to stage the tournament following a successful national club championships last September.

The affiliates who paid their nomination fees before the deadline on January 31 are Port Moresby women, Port Moresby men, Lae, Kimbe, Gazelle, Kokopo, Rabaul and Buluminski.

Those that failed to meet the deadline include Rabaul Country, Kavieng, Lihir, Mt Hagen, Ramu, Tabubil, Alotau, Goroka and Madang.

Tarasomo and his executives have given allowance for a revived Wewak Softball Association under the guidance of Albert Seri for late registration after a 20-year absence.

Tarasomo said PNGSF was looking forward to Wewak’s participation especially when they have been off the scene for two decades.

The Takubar sports ground will be the hive of a feast of softball as players in the train-on squad press for spots in the final team.

The national team will undergo a high performance training camp in Kokopo following the championships.

Already one association, Port Moresby women’s, has named three teams for the  tournament.
