FORTY years of perseverance have finally paid off for Igora Primary School in the Sohe district in Northern, after it officially opened its new K43,000 library last Friday.
Guest of honour and Sohe leader Steven Kila Pat opened the model library for primary schools in the province.
The library was funded from school fees and government school infrastructure subsidies.
Steven was accompanied by his father Kila Pat, who retired after 41 years service to the people of Northern, Milne Bay and Eastern Highlands provinces.
School principal Bernard Hiwiki said it was a dream come true for parents who had wanted a school library since 1971.
He said he wanted to use the building for TV classes for Grades 7 and 8, install computers and electronic learning and teaching equipment.
He said parents, teachers and students were prepared to improve education system in the district but lack of political support was a setback.
Kila Pat, who donated more than K1,300 worth of teachers’ resource books, said education was a right and people in authority should not deny that right to any child.
