PNG Defence Force soldiers from 1RPIR Taurama Barracks were awarded certificates of appreciation for their efforts in the recovery operation of the Airlines PNG plane crash in Kokoda
Witnessed by PNGDF joint force commander Col Vagi Oala at the
Taurama Barracks, the soldiers were presented certificates of appreciation by the PNGDF on behalf of the Australian government, the Civil Aviation of PNG and the Royal PNG Constabulary.
“The engagement of these brave soldiers has contributed significantly to the successful outcome of this mission and I thank them for their commitment to the PNGDF and the nation,” Col Oala said.
He said in response to the PNG Airlines crash which occurred in the vicinity of Kokoda on August 11 this year, PNGDF soldiers from 1RPIR Taurama Barracks were deployed at a very short notice into Kokoda, to assist in securing and recovering victims of the crash.
