THE Solomon Islands community will be celebrating its 35th independence anniversary on Sunday in Port Moresby.

Organising committee chairwoman Denyse Ealedona said the Papua New Guinea-Solomon Islands community had been preparing to celebrate in style.

“A committee has been preparing for the celebrations to take place at the capital city’s Nature Park,” Ealedona said yesterday.

“Citizens of Solomon Islands living in PNG and those married to Solomon Islanders and friends of the Solomon Islands have been invited to attend with a dish of food,” she said.

Ealedona said the committee had written to businesses for support and urged PNG companies operating in the Solomons to support them.

“The Solomon Islands enjoy very cordial and healthy relations with Papua New Guinea,” she said.

“The committee wishes to thank the people of PNG for the respect and support always given to the Solomon Islands community.

“Our high commissioner William Haomae will be guest of honour with other guests and the media.

“The independence celebrations for the Solomon Island community will see special dances to be performed by the visiting Solomon Islands rugby union team, the Solomon Islands Warriors in Port Moresby for the Oceania challenge,”
