THE Solomon Islands team arrived yesterday after their one-week training camp in Sydney for the OFC Nations Cup in Papua New Guinea.
Coach Moses Toata sad the team were joined in Australia by Auckland City’s Spanish head coach Ramon Tribulietx, who took up a technical adviser role with the Solomon Islands for the duration of the tournament.
Tribulietx has a formidable resume at the regional level, after guiding Auckland City to six consecutive OFC Champions League titles.
“The team is happy to have Tribulietx with us here in Port Moresby,” Toata said. “He is a very resourceful person and gets on well with the players.
“He has valuable experience and we are happy to have his assistance as we prepare for the Nations Cup.”
Toata is confident Tribulietx’s analytical expertise will be helpful.
“In the next few days, we will be working on our structure and we believe Ramon can make an important contribution to improve our system and tactical play,” he said.
“He will help us evaluate and analyse our process.”
Toata said the mood in the camp was vibrant and the players are confident ahead of their campaign.
“Team spirit is high and the players believe that we will do well in PNG,” Toata said.
“It will be tough competition but if we keep stay focused and strive, winning the competition is a possibility.” The Solomon Islands will open their Nations Cup campaign against Vanuatu on Saturday.
