GRAND Chief Sir Michael Somare has expressed great sadness at the loss of lives in a landslide in Southern Highlands.
“While waiting for the courts to further deliberate on the political crisis, I can only convey through the media my heartfelt sadness for those who are mourning the loss of loved ones and are looking for relatives who are still missing,” Sir Michael said.
“I am pleased that Emergency Services have already been deployed into the area and thank the Australian Government for their assistance including the immediate assistance by ExxonMobil on the ground.
“As a leading Southern Highlands MP, I am pleased to see that Peter O’Neill has visited the areas affected and ensuring adequate care and supplies are being provided to the people.
“Equally, the people of Papua New Guinea have been following this large scale disaster and I know are sharing your grief today.
“Therefore, I convey my sincere sympathies and prayers on behalf of the people of Papua New Guinea, my wife and family to all the relatives of those who have lost loved ones.”
