Son of Kiriwina comes out top

TRIUMPH Heritage Empowerment (T.H.E) Party candidate Douglas Tomuriesa has been declared the new member for Kirriwina-Goodenough after ousting sitting member Jack Cameroon yesterday.
After count 20 in the elimination process, Tomuriesa posted 7,022 votes to beat National Alliance candidate Leonard Louma who came second with 6,530.
In third place was Ronnie Koitele with 5,322. Cameroon finished fourth.
Returning officer Ben Bagita declared Tomuriesa at 6.15pm.
“Thank you very much for your prayers for me and all the good people of Kirriwina-Goodenough,” Tomuriesa said.
“Leadership comes from God and he can take that leadership back.
“I want to thank the paramount chiefs, the public servants and the young boys and young girls and children.”
