WARD one of Agarabi LLG in Kainantu district, Eastern Highlands, was the latest to launch community development projects under Governor Julie Soso’s bottom-up approach for effective service deliveries.
Soso opened five projects initiated by ward one councillor Martin Doroaro in Tiungka village just outside Kainantu town on Tuesday.
She praised councillor Doroaro as one among the 264 ward councillors in Eastern Highlands to successfully use K10,000 she gave to each ward to develop community projects.
The projects Soso opened were the Aga’anantu village water supply project, Aga’anantu village bridge, Tiungka Elementary School, Kinston village resource centre and One Peace stationery and counselling centre.
“Under the bottom-up approach, the Eastern Highlands government and administration are going right down to the community level and working with ward councillors to develop ward committees and ward women’s groups,” she said.
“The public service and NGOs are using the models to bring tangible services to the people.”
She thanked Kainantu MP Johnson Tuke for supporting ward councillors in Kainantu to beef up their K10,000 allocation with additional funds which has resulted in impact projects being implemented.
