Eastern Highlands Governor Julie Soso is calling on Goroka MP Bire Kimisopa to put political differences aside and work with her to serve the interests of the people.
“I thank the National Court in Goroka for making a fair decision in the interest of the public of Eastern Highlands,” Soso told The National last Friday.
Soso was referring to the court’s dismissal of an injunction sought by Kimisopa to exclude the provincial executive council from the development of the Goroka town market redevelopment project.
She said a total of K22 million for the refurbishment of Goroka market was for the people of Eastern Highlands and politicians must work together to see them benefit.
“We need to do a redevelopment of the market and that money has been appropriated for the market and was already there in the province but Kimisopa took a court injunction,” she said.
“Our decisions must be based on the interest of the people.
“We politicians need to keep our hands off. There is a steering committee in place, made up of concerned parties.”
She said the market should be completed before the Apec meeting in 2018
“We need to have a face-lift in Goroka town. The Goroka market project must begin now,” she said.
