PREPARATIONS for the South Bougainville by-election are going well with polling to start on June 18 and end on July 1, Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato says.
He said officers from the commission’s training unit in Port Moresby and Bougainville were in Siwai, Buin, Torokina and Bana for the training of polling officials.
He said all the necessary polling and counting materials would depart Port Moresby on Thursday, June 9.
“In terms of election logistics, a chartered aircraft will depart Port Moresby on Thursday, June 9, with all the necessary polling and counting materials,” Gamato said.  “Necessary polling materials that will be airlifted to Aropa airport include ballot papers, candidate posters, voting components, indelible ink and stationery while the Office of Bougainville Electoral Commission will provide ballot boxes.” Gamato said the Autonomous Region of Bougainville police commander was yet to finalise the list of officers to be on duty during the exercise.
