THE Mendi School of Nursing is the first institution in Southern Highlands to have the cleanit internet service installed last week.

The Mendi High School will also be in Telikom Foundation’s pilot project as it is situated within the town boundary.

Southern Highlands deputy administrator Jerry David said after installing the cleanit internet service at the Mendi School of Nursing, the team will move to Mendi High School.

Under the free education policy, Mendi High School was  allocated various projects, one of which is a computer laboratory equipped with 70 computers costing K110,000.

A library built last year will be equipped with another 70 computers which the provincial government has already made a commitment to fund.

David said Ialibu and Nipa secondary schools, Buiebi and Pangia high schools and the Southern Highlands Technical College at Nipa would have theirs installed when funding was available.

“The provincial government is committed to supporting students in the province and will strongly support the free education policy so that quality education is achieved,” he said.

He said the programme would help teachers and students conduct research online and have access to the outside world.

Only educational websites will be allowed while unwanted websites including social networking sites will be barred. Telikom Foundation launched the Cleanit internet service to promote literacy through ICT for students in PNG.

The cleanit internet website will be accessed via Telikom PNG’s ADSL high speed broad link.
