THE inaugural regional touch football tournament staged at the Sir Ignatius Kilage stadium over the weekend in Lae, Morobe province was hailed a success.
Southern Region dominated the two days tournament to come out on top in their respective divisions to claim the first ever regional title. They defeated Momase in the open women’s division 9-1, open mix division 5-3, open men’s division 5-2 but lost to Highlands in the senior men’s division 4-5.
The tournament was put in place to develop up and coming players leading up to the 15th South Pacific Games. PNG Touch Football Federation also made selections for a possible team to represent PNG in the South Pacific Island Nation (SPIN) touch competition in Niue in September.
