Southern schools showcase talent

RAW talent came to the fore when the Coca-Cola National Schools Rugby League (NSRL) Southern Championships kicked off at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby yesterday.
Talent from the National Capital District, Central and Motu-Koita took to the pitch to showcase their skills and push for spots in the Southern Confederate side to compete at the national schools championships at the end of next month.
In attendance were Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League Southern Confederate director Gwaibo Mairi, NSRL manager Arnold Krewanty and PNGRFL national competition manager Toksy Nema, who were all impressed with the talent on show.
The championships featured Moresby Souths, Moresby North-East, Moresby North-West, Central and Motu-Koita in the Under-14, U16 and U18 boys, and open-girls divisions.
All the matches were played in damp conditions but this did not deter the students from giving their best.
Krewanty said the championships were not about winning but to see players push for selection into the confederate side.
