A WOMAN from Eastern Highlands gave birth to a triplet on Good Friday.
Serah Ben Titus, from Safa village in the Unggai-Bena district, gave birth to the three girls at about 10am.
Two of the babies – weighing 1.9 kg and 2kg respectively – were able to breastfeed after birth.
Their sister, however, weighing 1.8kg, was placed in the nursery to gain more strength, according to labour ward nurses Lucy Duana and Nancy Waruta.
Duana said this was the first time Goroka Base Hospital had witnessed the delivery of a triplet on a festive occasion such as Easter, New Year or Christmas.
“We are indeed grateful to deliver the triplet who are doing well,” she said.
Waruta said they made only three deliveries on Good Friday.
The heaviest baby weighed 3.1kg and was born to Lucy Ilomo Laihe from Bitu village in the Kainantu district.
The other was a baby girl (2.7kg) born to Alice Andrew from Oliguti village in Lufa district.
