LAE Biscuit Spiders take another step close to the grand final in the Lae rugby league competition after holding off PNG Toner and Ink Supplies Royals 6-4 in the main encounter at the Lae rugby league oval.
Spiders’ entry into the next stage of the A grade finals was boosted by the B grade and U19 divisions who still have the chance to make the final.
The club based in East Taraka had enjoyed some wonderful moments in the 1990s and are expected to see the three grades make the finals this season.
Spiders’ hooker Junior Philip was rewarded a try in his second attempt over the Royals’ line after he was earlier denied in the second half.
It was a try-less first half.
Royals’ winger Eddie Gritcaley responded for the policemen by pushing his way over the try line at the right side but their aspirations for a lead never eventuated after they failed to convert.
In the dying minutes, the Spiders capitalised on a penalty in their 30m line that winger Nick Loek booted between the uprights.
Spiders will go into camp and focus on continuing their winning run to the grand final.
