Splitting an electorate

Letters

THIS is open letter to Jiwaka Governor Dr William Tongamp, Anglimp South Waghi MP Joe Kuli and those who have apolitical association to support the call to split Anglimp South Waghi into two different electorates come the next Electoral Boundaries Commission review exercise.
The people from both sub-districts wanted and still want it for all the reasons, including socio-economic, politics and cultural.
This is the greatest desire for most in the electorate.
When you visited Kiap-Kondika during the election period you promised to have the biggest district in your province split before the 2022 general election.
It’s our desire that your promise is materialised before the next election.
The call for a split has merits.
The district is the largest by far in terms of landmass, population and cultural variants.
We are at an opportune time when the Government is conducting a review for various recommended boundaries and we are sure you have been working towards your promise and hope that we have two separate electorates come 2022.
This call also extends to Joe Kuli to support this cause in his capacity as electoral MP and vice-minister in the Government.
The split has more positive benefits, including spreading the country’s wealth among marginal populations and improving service delivery.
For years, both during the Western Highlands regime and currently as a province, most parts of the eastern end of the district have not seen any tangible service delivery.
We see there is impartiality and unfairness in deciding developments and services from both the provincial government and from the local MP and his district development authority.
What we are getting are lip service, service centred on a few selected cohorts and creating jobs for the boys.
