Sports complex, community hall for village

 A MOTU-Koitabu village will have its own community hall and sports complex, thanks to National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop and Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko.

Parkop and Sports and Games Minister Tkatchenko did the ground breaking yesterday for work to start on the  hall, fencing and complex Pari village.  The project will cost K900,000.

“We want to improve the quality of life in the villages,” Parkop said.

“I want to see villages in the city become model villages for the rest of the country.”

Parkop said villages in the city had no excuses as they had access to water, health and education. He told the villagers to maintain it community spirit and  work as a community.

Tkatchenko said: We have to learn from the past and look towards the future.”

He said the community hall would cater to 300 people and that the complex would include basketball, volleyball and netball courts.

Pari’s prominent leader Prof Sir Isi Kevau thanked the governor and minister for the project.

“We thank you for the part you play and will continue to play,” he said.
