RIDING on the success of the XV Pacific Games, the PNG Sports Foundation and key partners will be hosting a sports expo to showcase the different opportunities available through sports.

PNG Sports Foundation chief executive officer Peter Tsiamalili said at the launch of the PNG 2015 Sports Expo launched last Wednesday, said it was a unique activity, the first-of-its-kind, to allow the different dynamics of sports brought together in one place.

“This expo comes at a unique time for sports in PNG as it is something that we’d like to explore, start to initiate activities that will align with our partnership with sports development in PNG.

“This is something our minister has had a great vision of and it comes at a time where we are enjoying the success we had in the XV Pacific Games.

“So we need to start to align all the activities, all the pathways and acknowledge the changes and dynamos of sports that are evolving in front of us,” he said.

“This expo, to be held in Nov 26-28, is themed Sports for All and it allows us to share ideas and have a better understanding of how we can develop sports in the country.

“Sports is a catalyst that we can use to make the changes we want to see,” he said.

“We have great activities happening next year at our venues where we now have such beautiful infrastructure and this expo will allow our people to be more appreciative of what is involved in maintaining the facilities, and how to use these as well.

“The PNG Olympic Committee and the PNG Games Organising Council will be available at the expo so use this time to ask as many questions regarding the different sports codes,” Tsiamalili said.

PNG Olympic Committee’s Auvita Rapila urged all 40 registered national federations in the country to maximise this opportunity to market their sport.

“After the Pacific Games, I can confirm that the past weeks have seen lots of queries from the public, particularly the parents, asking for details of specific sports for their children.

“The Games really inspired the nation, mainly the young generation, so it is important we have this expo so we can harness that enthusiasm,” she said.
