Sports lead youths to live better lives

SPORTS activities are keys to minimising, curbing and controlling the rise in law and order problems in PNG.
Major sponsor of the 2010 rugby league cup, Bruce Nixon said this at Harngan in Kudjip, Jiwaka, Western Highlands, on Sunday.
He said his objective of sponsoring the competition was to help youths live a disciplined life in the future.
Nixon has committed K10,000 to the event with K5,000 going to the purchase of trophies.
He said his vision was to support sports activities in the region.
This is the first time for the people of Harngan to experience such competition.
Nixon said, so far, 24 teams in the U17, U19 and A grades were participating in the competition.
It is a good start for the competition because most youths participating in the competition are involved in illegal activities like smoking marijuana and drinking homebrew.
Nixon said he would continue to support the competition for the next five years to ensure youths get themselves into sports and refrain from their bad habits.
He said the competition would also help raw talents improve and focus on a brighter future.
Nixon, who is employed by Cameron Construction as a project coordinator at Wape, Morobe, said if players behaved well,  he would sponsor them to participate in the Ipatas Cup or the Western Highlands Governor’s Cup challenge.
