PAPUA New Guinea will host the Pacific Sports Ministers Conference today as part of forging the way forward for sports development in the region.

Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko said the meeting was very important for the island countries in the region, and if there was political will, there was always something to achieve at the end.

The meeting will involve the ministers and their delegates from all 22 participating countries in the 2015 Pacific Games.

Tkatchenko said the main agenda for the meeting would be talking about the experience of hosting such a big sporting event — the Pacific Games.

“For PNG, we are going to talk about our experience. Coming from three years behind schedule, PNG can proudly say they have delivered world-class sporting facilities for 2015 Pacific Games. President of Pacific Games Council Vidhay Lakahn said the meeting was very important for the island countries.

“This is an important conference as we intend to impress all sports ministers because they play a very important role in the lives of our people as sports is a fast-growing industry in our region, helping us to tackle our social issues,” Lakhan said.
