Spring cleaning an ego issue

Letters, Normal

AS I see it, Gary Juffa wants Adrian Lam out because the coach has a good relationship with Albert Veratau.
Veratau gave Lam a free reign.
Juffa’s proposals are not only outdated but brought little success in the past.
The zone championships will not work because we have the bemobile Cup.
Just because a “bush” player plays well in a one-day trial does not mean he is ready for the international stage.
He needs to play week in week out to have any chance against international players.
These days, coaches look for players who play together at club level so they can make use of the established combinations.
The current players have been together for a while so there should be no need for a major overhaul.
Coaches like Lam are not looking for individual stars but team players – people who can play according to the game plan.
This is the main reason why many of our players, who shine as individual players, cannot play as a unit.
Lam’s brainchild of “Residents vs Internationals” was a master stroke and started to pay dividends but it seems this concept is getting the boot.
The test against Fiji was supposed to be annual affair initiated by Veratau but Juffa has scrapped it saying we do not need to play it because we can beat them.
Look at England vs France. The French may be weaker but the English still fielded the best they have for the one-off test.
Was it scrapped because it was Veratau’s initiative?
The whole “clean house” business looks like an ego trip.
