Sprite backs Lae basketball

COCA-Cola Amatil Ltd, through its soft drink brand, Sprite, has thrown its support behind the Lae Basketball Association to sponsor the 2011 season with K20,000.
The competition, known as Sprite Lae Basketball League, will be held at the Eriku basketball courts.
With the association preparing to start the season at the end of the month, it was a timely sponsorship.
Association president Tom Joumkalop thanked the CCA for coming on board to support the competition.
He added that with a lot of junior talent coming up the ranks, the association was looking forward to a tough competition this season.
CCA national marketing manager Louise Maher said globally Sprite  had successful links with basketball and the company’s support to the association would continue on the same path to develop the code.
The sponsorship packaged includes prize money, products and merchandise.
The pre-season competition this week ends this week and the season proper starts on May 28.
Last year’s champions, NS Busu in the men’s and Unitech Bulls in the women’s, are looking forward to another exciting season.
Joumkalop also said there were plans to start a junior competition and interested schools should turn up at the Eriku courts on Saturday.
