NATIONAL beach volleyball training squad yesterday received coaching tips from Gold Coast beach/indoor (volleyball) academy coaching director, Aaron Alsop.

The men’s and women’s squad members underwent a special session at the Ela Beach courts in front of Papua New Guinea Volleyball Federation acting president Bernard Alu, general secretary John Paliau and VAVA president Kila Ole.

“Alsop’s visit was made possible by Vabukori Amateur Volleyball Association (VAVA) and it was a great opportunity for the beach volleyballers,” Alu said.

He said the federation met last night and decided to invite Alsop back to fine tune the players in preparations for a tour to Brisbane in July or August and the Pacific Mini Games in Wallis and Futuna in September.

Alsop said PNG had the players and resources but needed a better structured programme to deliver results.

“You can be more successful than the Vanuatu girls with the potential you have,” he said.

Alsop stressed the importance of a proper warm-up.

He will be back in the country within a month and bring playing equipment with him.

Beach volleyball coach Dorothy Eliakim was impressed with the skills and tips Alsop has shared with the squad.
