THE squash development programme is on schedule and target for 2015 Pacific Games in Port Moresby.

PNG Squash development officer and manager John Kambuou said after the PNG women’s team won the U17 division title at the Victoria Open in Melbourne, Australia.

He said Victoria Open provided the much needed competition for the players in the lead up to the 2015 Games.

Kambuou said a serious issue was the lack of facilities to develop players and ongoing junior development.

“Our training, however, has been hindered by lack or non-existence of squash courts in Port Moresby and the country.

“It has interrupted our junior development programme with schools in NCD and around the country which has generated great interest”.

Kambuou appealed to the Minister for Sports Justin Tkatchencko and the Games VIEC Committee headed by Andrew Potter for their support.

He said in 1991, the government spent nearly K500,000 into the development of squash facilities.
