PAPUA New Guinean supporters at the Steamships Racquets Clubs grinned from ear to ear as the national women’s squash team beat Tahiti in the women’s team event yesterday.

PNG’s Lynette Vai, Nicole Gibbs and Eli Webb all got 3-0 scores against Tahiti’s Heimana Chung, Beatrice Villa and Isabelle Olite.

Before their win yesterday, the PNG squash beauties defeated the giants of women’s squash and the defending champions, New Caledonia on Monday.  There are only four countries taking part in squash. PNG has met New Caledonia and Tahiti and yesterday took on Fiji in the women’s team event.

Squash technical delegate Carol Kawaljenko said Tahiti and New Caledonia will face each other and will go straight into the final play-offs.

“Starting Friday, we will run the single, double and mixed events for men and women’s competitions,” she said.

Papua New Guinea women’s squash team is leading followed by New Caledonia, Fiji and Tahiti.
