STAFF and students of Buin Secondary School have been commended for their collective decision to continue classes after the school’s administration building was burnt down.
Member for South Bougainville Timothy Masiu said this was a show of resilience.
“I am proud of the stand by the teaching staff and student to continue classes to the end of the school year,” he said.
The school had the option of closing down after a fire completely burnt down the school’s administration building in the early hours of Thursday morning, destroying school records and student reports, but staff collectively agreed to continue classes until the end of the school year.
According to the school administration all students’ assessment reports and records were safe.
It has been established that the fire was the work of arsonists and police were working on leads.
Masiu also condemned those responsible for the fire.
