STAMP collectors and tourists visiting the nation’s capital will now be able to appreciate the beauty of Papua New Guinean stamps at a convenient location.
With Post PNG headquartered at Konedobu, the mobile SMK kiosk in the Vision City mega mall will be the window display as well as where major products will be sold.
Post PNG’s philatelic bureau manager Banian Masiboda said some of these products could be found at the Star Plus stationery shop, on Vision City’s first floor.
“For those looking for that ideal gift idea for Christmas, the 2012 stamp album will be off the press by early
November,” he said. While in the same month another major occasion will be the royal visit by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall. “If that’s not thrilling enough, to coincide with the visit, the bureau will be releasing a set of stamps to commemorate the diamond jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
“During this time, it gives me great pleasure to mention that the world will have the opportunity to witness the launch of the world’s largest first day cover by the Prince of Wales,” an excited Masiboda said.
A first day cover is an envelope with affixed stamps of respective stamp issues.
The largest first day cover, according to The Modesto Bee and StampNews.com, is that of the “200th Anniversary American eagle portrait” measuring 11 by 187 inches.
The new record size will be made known on the day of the launch.
