THE Prime Minister’s Department has been praised for recognising a local shipping firm which transported military personnel from Wewak to Madang for Independence celebrations.
Branch manager of Star Shipping Saul Manase told The National the transport of more than 130 soldiers to Madang to take part in 34th Independence celebrations was the first time the Government had recognised and engaged the company, although it had been operating in the country for a long time.
Mr Manase said it was a privilege to have been recognised by the Prime Minister’s Department and be engaged to transport soldiers from the Second Pacific Islands Regiment based at Moem Barracks in the East Sepik province to Madang.
Star Shipping has branches all over the Momase and New Guinea Island and its ships travel to different ports in the Southern region.
Star Shipping’s mv Kimbe Queen can carry a maximum of 300 passengers and has fully air-conditioned passenger rooms.
Mr Manase said the Madang office started in 2004 and had been serving people in the region since then.
