THE 2010 Telikom National Soccer goes into a long Christmas break after the last game of the year was played at the weekend.
The season will resume on Jan 15 with the last game of round one and the second round commencing the following weekend.
In the weekend’s game, the Eastern Stars Football Club continued its winning run when they beat PNG U20 Besta United FC 4-2 at the Lloyd Robson Oval in Port Moresby.
In other NSL games, Tukoko University FC came from behind to hold off a determined Gigira Laitepo Morobe FC 2-2 in Lae while the game between Madang Fox FC and Hekari United has been postponed to next year due to the latter taking part in the Club World Cub tournament in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Petro Souths were on bye.
The game between Stars and Besta saw poor coordination from the young Besta side which resulted in Stars sneaking in the two points to win and also elevating them up the point’s ladder.
Besta were the first to score to their most outstanding player Jamal Seeto but his efforts were wasted by poor coordination by his injury-hit young side.
The Stars capitalised on Besta’s weaknesses to score three goals in the first half and added one from a penalty kick.
Seeto saved his side from embarrassment after they were trailing 3-1 by scoring another goal in the second half to make the score a respectable 2-4.
The goal scorers for Stars were Max Sengum (2), Carol Kakate (1) and Adrian Enoch (1).
Meanwhile, PNGRFA will be introducing the women’s national soccer League challenge next year.
Five teams each from Lae and Port Moresby will battle it out in a weekend show-down and the finalists will assemble in Port Moresby for the grand final to be played at the Lloyd Robson Oval.
The competition will start in Jan 22.
