KEREMA MP Titus Pitom Bombom has allocated K280,000 from the district support grants under his electorate to help disaster affected villages of Kotidanga and Kaintiba districts in Gulf province.
Acting on the reports from councillors in the two districts who reported on starvation and deaths in the area due to food shortage, Mr Bombom said he had ordered the purchase of food relief supplies worth K200,000 for the affected districts.
Part of the funds (about K60,000), went to hiring a PNG Defence Force aircraft to fly the goods into the affected areas.
Mr Bombom, who comes from Kaintiba, said he had engaged some of his officers, including disaster coordinating team in the province, to accompany the foodstuff and ensure they are distributed to all affected areas.
