A GOVERNMENT entity has joined hands with the University of Technology to promote horticulture in the country.

Goroka-based Fresh Produce Development Agency on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of Technology at its Taraka campus.

It aims to implement academic, technical and professional cooperation through research, study and training in advancing knowledge, science and technology plus professional skills development through the various objectives and activities that will benefit the organisations and promote nation-building.

FPDA general manager Gregory Liripu said it was the first time the company was entering into a deal with an educational institution.

Liripu said the government had called on both institutions to provide fresh and healthy food to feed the country’s population.

“Signing such documents is very easy but the implementation part is very difficult,” he said.

Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof John Pumwa welcomed the initiative.

“I have no doubt in the potentials and the abilities of my staff in this university. They will help you and you will help us to move forward and develop this country,” Pumwa said.
