State to review provincial, LLG organic laws
The National, Monday March 31st, 2014
THE State plans to review the Organic Law on Provincial and Local Level Government, deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for Inter-Government Relations, Leo Dion said.
That will help identify the weaknesses that hinder service delivery and find ways to improve them, he said at a church partnership programme forum last week.
The review will look into the possibility of greater power sharing between the national, provincial and local level governments, he said
Dion made it clear the government was aware of provinces that were pushing for autonomy and this would be considered in the review.
“I would like to encourage all stakeholders and provincial governments to give their objective views to the visiting consultation teams.” He encouraged stakeholders who were equal partners in service delivery to make submissions on areas that needed to be improved for more efficiency.
The final report of the review will be submitted at the end of the year, Dion said.
