A POLICE station commander in Port Moresby facing charges relating to a raid on a family home last November appeared at the Waigani Committal Court yesterday.

Magistrate Mekeo Gauli told Insp Mark Mosinakave that charges laid against him were serious and the National Court would hear his case.

He said police would collect witness statements and if there was ample evidence, he would be committed to the National Court to face a trial.

Gauli said it was a fresh matter and investigations were continuing so the court would adjourn for a month.

Gauli ordered Mosinakave to return to court on March 17 for mention and extended his court bail until his next appearance.

Mosinakave is charged with assault causing injuries and illegal detention of Steven Lakali.

Police alleged that on Nov 7 last year at 8-Mile, Mosinakave, in company of other police officers, assaulted Lakali at his home.

Police alleged that after assaulting Lakali, Mosinakave and other policemen allegedly took Lakali to Gordon Police Station where they detained him without charges.
