BULOLO Police Station commander Inspector Leo Kaikas is appealing to authorities to help renovate the rundown station holding cells.
He was summoned by Lae acting Judge John Numapo before the Bulolo District Court last week to explain why the cells were in such a state.
The acting judge had visited the holding cells on March 26 and condemned them due to their appalling state.
Numapo described them as unfit for humans and ordered its closure.
Kaikas said the cells were left to deteriorate over the years because of funding constraints.
He appealed to authorities for help to repair and perhaps upgrade the cells and connect a proper water supply to the station.
He called on the community in Wau, Bulolo, Menyamya, Watut and the surrounding areas to look after themselves and keep away from trouble because there safety was not guaranteed due to the run-down cells.
