Station ordered to close
THE Jomba Police Station in Madang was ordered to close after two detainees and two police officers tested positive for the Covid-19 on Wednesday.
Madang police commander Supt Mazuc Rubiang also ordered all his officers, who were at the station, to go for Covid-19 tests so they knew their status.
He said a team from the Madang health authority were at the police station and carried out testing and confirmed that four people had tested positive.
Supt Rubiang said the detainees would be screened and those who had committed minor offences would be released on bail so they could have space for the others.
“The test is like that of other diseases so it is not harmful,” Supt Rubiang said.
“I encouraged my policemen and women to get themselves tested because, according to the health workers, four people test positive.”
Supt Rubiang said the detainees were isolated.
He said the remaining 20 were also tested.
