Steelers, sharks tussle for 4th place in comp
The National, Friday February 5th, 2016
This weekend games in the Gordon’s Touch Competition will see teams further strengthening their positions for the finals coming up in five weeks.
The positions for six to seven spots are up for grabs as most teams are all locked up around that position.
Texas Knights will be looking forward to strengthen their grip on sixth spot when they take on the high flying Side Sena Tigers on Sunday, while Konabar Eels will be doing likewise when they take on Bala Raiders.
The match of the round will see Flat Steelers take on Davara Sharks. They are currently on fourth and seventh respectively spot but are separated only by points for and against so both will be looking forward to secure a win to keep their positions intact.
Flat Steelers after two wins are primed for a big game as they know that Sharks are not easy beats like in yester years; they have recruited well this season and are on the improve with each game.
Steelers gun player John Vincent should be watched closely by the Sharkies as he has been a standout in their two wins leading into this game. Also supporting him ably are bulky five eighth Makakat Mackie Tokana and stylish centre Charlie Yapumi. Both are creative players and can score points if not watched carefully.
Sharks on the other hand will be pinning their hopes on Peter Nixon and young speedster Guboi Ove to bring in their points. Their regular fullback Richard Rawali has been a disappointment to the team this year as he has been a passenger all season. If he finds his best form the Sharkies could go a long way to winning this competition.
The other matches should see Bala Raiders return to the winners circle over the Konabar Eels, Erima Magpies should have a good match up with Tapiti Panthers.
On Sunday, Kovera Dogs will be trying to get into the winners circle by beating Boda Storms, and Freeway Rabbitohs should find Hanua Roosters hard to beat.
