PACIFIC Games Organising Committee chief executive officer Peter Stewart has defended the contracting of transport services for the 2015 Games to local transport company, Pindu Transport and Logistics Services (PTLS).

The company was recently awarded a contract to provide transportation services for all athletes and officials during the event from July 4-18.

Stewart was responding to recent media reports claiming the company was unable to deliver the requirements of 300 vehicles for the event.

“The reports in the media are inaccurate and the does not fully reflect Pindu’s story.

“Pindu is a real success story and what was said in the media is inaccurate,” Stewart said.

Stewart said when GOC was established in 2012, the company’s owner, Mek Pindu arrived at his office at the Sir John Guise indoor complex and asked to provide services for the Pacific Games.

“Seeing his determination, I asked how many cars he had, and he said he had two.

“We told him that he was not in a position to deliver for the Games and he left.

“Now he is back with a better plan and we are pleased with how he has met the requirements.

“And that’s what we want.

“We want people who can get what we need. He has an amazing story of someone who came from a small business to benefitting greatly from the Games.

“His is a success story,” Stewart said.
