Stewart has mixed reaction at Games halfway mark

GAMES Organising Committee chief executive officer Peter Stewart is both happy and sad with how things are progressing at the halfway mark of the Pacific Games.
“So here we are we are halfway through the Pacific Games and there are some things I’m happy about and there are some things I’m not so happy about,” he said. Stewart was addressing the Pacific Games Council annual general meeting in Port Moresby.
“I think from the Games Organising Committee’s point of view, we are happy with the opening ceremony. (But) we are not so happy with the queues leading into the village dining,” he said. “We are happy that when you get there, the food is very good. We are happy that your athletes are getting to the venues reasonably well. We are not so happy getting the athletes back from the venues quite so quickly.
“We are happy with the level of competition and the fantastic performances the athletes are doing. (But) we are not so happy with some of the areas we could have done better in.
“We are happy about the crowd that are out in all the venues and the enthusiasm there and the behaviour of the crowds. (But) we are not so happy about the rain, we’d have liked the rain not to be here quite so much.
“We happy that we’ve reached the halfway point of the Games without any major issues but we know the challenges in front of us still to deliver the rest of the Games.”
