Hekari United skipper David Muta says sticking to a game plan is paramount if a team is to succeed in the National Soccer League.
Muta said having the discipline to follow a game plan was what many coaches expected of their players.
He said that after Hekari beat Gulf Komara 3-1 at the Sir John Guise stadium on Saturday.
“Never break your game plan even though the game is not in your favour,” Muta said.
Hekari and Komara played out a scoreless first half in the Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited-sponsored competition, but Hekari stuck to their game plan and delivered the win after the break.
“We did not break our game plan,” Muta said.
“We stuck to our game plan and followed our coach’s instructions.
“There will be moments in the game where you will come under pressure but you have to stick to your game plan.
“That’s what we did and we came away with the win.”
Muta commended his players for a solid performance.
“I think the boys played really well,” he said.
“Komara are a tough side and they played very well.
“But I thank my players for sticking to the game plan to claim the win.
“Although we won, we still have a lot of room for improvement.
“I think we have to improve in a lot of areas. Our coach is aware of that and we will be working on them at training.
“We have to keep on improving ourselves.”
Meanwhile, Muta has commended the Mineral Resources Development Company and manager Vonnie Kapi Natto for supporting the club.
