WHEN will the PNG Accident Investigation Commission release the long-awaited report of the 2011 Airlines PNG (APNG) crash which killed 28 people?
It has been almost three years since the Oct 13 incident and the families are still waiting for the findings.
On Feb 2, 2012, the MV Rabaul Queen sank in Vitiaz Strait and the inquest has already been completed and the people found to be liable are being dealt with.
What then is happening with the APNG case?
Surely the commission has nothing to hide from the public.
Are its findings so inconclusive?
Are we taking safety issues so light that we are prepared for another accident and more loss of lives?
There have been a few since 1992 when a MBA-operated flight crashed into a mountain near Alotau, killing six people.
Three years later, another MBA aircraft crashed shortly after taking off from Alotau and 13 people were killed.
A year later, an MBA aircraft crashed in a valley near Oumba killing one person.
Two months later, a Dash aircraft hit a mountain as it was approaching Mendi, killing 20 people.
In July, 2004, another Dash but operated by APNG crashed near Ononge in cloudy conditions killing two people.
Have all those accountable been charged and punished accordingly?
