STINGERS showed no mercy as they shut down United Sisters 8-0 in Port Moresby women’s softball on Saturday.
Stingers won the toss and wasted no time with the bat despite some power pitching from Sisters’ Natalie Bart.
Three quick runs at the top of the first inning gave Stingers a handy lead.
The Sisters batting lineup of Niateng Pokanau, Claire Wutt and Georgina Mocke could not get pass the first base as Stingers pitcher Tessa Karai was on fire.
She got Pokanau and Wutt out at first base and forced Mocke to hit clumsily to outfield where she was caught out.
Stinger’s continued to take lead in the top of the second inning when Ange Gire ran home with a 4-0 lead.
The absence of key players Caroline Moeder, Suluet Tarasomo and Florence Daple was a key factor in their dismal performance as the replacement players could not fill in the void.
Stingers maintained their lead all throughout the rest of the innings to win comfortably.
Ange Gire, Lenore Simba and Tessa Karai were outstanding in a fine team performance.
Sisters coach Dick Bart Junior said the team would train harder and focus on their next game against Wantoks this weekend.
