THE National Capital District (NCD) Taekwondo Association, in conjunction with Stones Taekwondo Academy, has initiated a self-defence and fitness training programme.
The programme follows taekwondo community-based projects aimed at addressing gender-based violence in communities around Port Moresby.
Association and Stones Taekwondo president Master Jamuga Stone said the programme targeted women and girls who were at risk of domestic violence.
“Sexual and social crimes against women and girls have increased in the last 10 months,” he said in a statement.
“With the law-and-order issues in NCD, it’s time to think seriously.
“This programme is ideal for all women and girls in the workforce, suburbs, settlements and villages.
“The programme provides a tailored and effective way to learn street-smart self-defence techniques for survival and to escape.
“It also helps women with general fitness and remaining healthy while instilling self-confidence.”
Stones is calling on interested organisations to come forward and partner the programme which is expected to start on Jan 26.
Registration opens today and closes on Jan 23. For more details, contact Stone on 75467220 or Jabby Gavu on 70625004.
