Stop entertaining bad behavior

Letters

THERE are many examples of how this country lacks accountability but I will use the following story.
Every time I think about accountability, or the lack of it, I remember in 2019 the newly appointed vice-chancellor called for a meeting with the boarding students and at the end of his speech he gave time for three questions – this is at the premier university of the Pacific.
A woman went up and asked a question about student safety and why they don’t deal with drunk students causing nuisance.
The head of security’s response to the girl’s question was that they didn’t want to ruin the students’ future.
The security didn’t want to take them to the police station because they didn’t want them to have bad records.
So you mean to tell me that you would prefer they continue being disruptive and develop bad habits rather than discipline them and steer them in the right direction?
How are they supposed to learn if you keep feeling sorry them?
Stop making excuses for people and let them face consequences of their actions.
Stop entertaining bad behaviour – the more you do, the more entitled people become.
Call people out when you see if what they are doing is wrong, take disciplinary action if they don’t take heed of the warnings given.
How is this country supposed to move forward when potential leaders don’t know the consequences of their actions?
Please, as a tertiary institution, do better.
