Stop fighting in Rabaul

Letters

EAST New Britain’s Rabaul town is turning into a battlefield.
It saddens me when I see my tribesmen, the Tolai people, fighting against each other.
Last month, some people in Malaguna wards 1 and 2 fought for a week, resulting in the closure of business and shops.
The fight forced the PMVs to stop operating.
A couple of days ago, a fight erupted again between some people in the Matupit ward and Malaguna 1, triggering the shops and businesses to close once more.
This sort of attitude is uncivilised and bad for development.
Why can’t we just let the law deal with the instigators instead of taking it into our own hands?
We are one people.
We’re from the same ethnicity.
We are not supposed to fight against each other.
If we want to contribute effectively to the building of this nation, this attitude has to stop now.
I am calling on the leaders of these wards to use their God-given brains to discern things and advice their people to let the law deal with people.
In that way, we will be able to solve issues in a proper way.

Hillary Likius,
Rabaul
