Stop flesh trade

Letters, Normal

I AM concerned with human trafficking activities in Papua New Guinea.
Even though the impact of development is exciting, the illegal activities and crime rate continue to rise at an alarming rate and is becoming a serious matter.
Women are smuggled in from Asia for sexual exploitation or forced to work as cheap labour in various industries in PNG.
There are stories about young women in Gulf being sold by their men to highlands men as sex slaves for expatriate men.
Then we also have reports about young PNG girls being sold by their families to work in night clubs and brothels.
Soroptimist International has revealed illegal activities in Cape Rodney, Central, where girls are being sold to some highlands and Asian men.
These victims are promised a better future in education, employment and money by traffickers.
But the reality is they end up as sex slaves.
As such, I call on the government to seriously establish legislations to prosecute human trafficking.
