Stop illegal water connection

Letters

MY family pay our water bills monthly and we are happy to pay our dues.
Water is very important to every creatures on this planet.
However, to get the water into towns and cities is very costly and consumers should pay for such services.
Since 1987, my family bought a run-down house in Gerehu that has an outstanding water bill of over K4,000 left by the previous NHC tenant.
With a family of four, I tried to reconnect the water to our house but was told to pay the outstanding bill before reconnections.
I advised Eda Ranu that my family had just moved into the property and we could not pay the outstanding.
But they still wanted us to pay.
We negotiated a deal to pay K125 fortnightly deductions from my salary until all outstanding was cleared.
Few years later, my family is still paying water bills.
Every end or start of the month, I sometimes sit at the veranda and notice something funny and unusual.
It appears that Eda Ranu officers only walk into few targeted properties to obtain monthly water meter readings from five out of 20 houses on the street.
I wonder, why and began to carry out my own investigations and found out that most houses high and low in every street in Gerehu continue to use illegal water connections.
My question to Eda Ranu is why are you not doing anything about this continuous illegal connection?
This is not a village where water is free.
This is a city and we should be treated the same.
Why are only few good people paying water bills while many are given freedom to connect water to their houses at no costs.
If you don’t seriously address this problem, illegal water connections to and from my house will not be a problem.
People have approached me many times to pay me and carry out illegal connection.
But I told them to leave us alone because we are God-fearing family and want his blessings in our lives.
I urge people in Gerehu and all over NCD to please put a stop to illegal water connections and start owning up and paying your water bills.

Blessed family
Gerehu

  • Illegal water and power connection in NCDC is rampant. What are the relevant authorities doing about it? Culplrits have been living with free supplies for years. This include commercial and residential properties with blocks of multiple units.

This calls for improvements in the internal control systems in the organizations that provide these services.
I am offering my services to assist in setting up these controls if you need someone who has the knowledge and experience. I can be contracted on the email address below
