Stop logging in Tewai-Siassi

Letters

THIS is an appeal to the Tewai-Siassi MP Dr Kobby Bomareo, the Morobe government, the National Forest Authority and the Conservation and Environment Protection Authority to revoke the permit of a logging operation in Bongo-Kulavi.
There was no proper consultation and agreement with the legitimate local clans and landowners.
We are concerned because there has been an influx of foreigners coming in boatloads with logging equipment, machines and vehicles and setting up camp on our land.
They have started clearing up the forest and blowing up reefs with dynamite. They used weapons and threatened our clan elders and youths who tried to stop them from trespassing onto our traditional land.
They are forcefully and illegally grabbing our traditional land.
Stop this.

  • This is serous and a threat to our country as a sovereign and independent nation if this is true. Leaders of the respected province should not turn a blind eye on this while the locals are being robbed off their land by foreigners.
