Stop playing politics with the Lutheran Church
The National, Thursday February 19th, 2015
CHURCH politics is the biggest issue in the Lutheran church today.
The leaders in the Lutheran church plays politics like that of the government and opposition in the parliament.
I have heard and I am hearing and going to hear about politics being played in my church since I was a kid to date.
When will the leaders in the church stop politicising and serve the church with theological legislation?
The leaders, starting from the head office down to the district level fight over the leadership in the church.
They have the mentality that church is the organisation that they can have power to gain prestige and profit.
They do not care about the theology that governs the operation of the church.
They create their own rules and legislation and force the followers to act on them. Consequently, when it comes to nominating and electing the new church leaders, politics are being played in the process of choosing the leaders.
There is a silent or pre-campaign going on in some parts of the country, especially in the highlands and Momase region for the appointment of the head bishop in 2016 Synod.
You cannot force and persuade people to nominate you or to elect you to become the leader of the church.
If you are one of them, you must understand that church is not your place to be.
You should be doing this in 2017 election.
Church is a non-profit organisation and one must surrender to work voluntarily.
Also, you cannot play politics to gain votes and recognition.
