NORTHERN province election manager Peter Malaifeope has warned supporters of candidates  to stop spreading rumours about the tampering of ballot boxes and papers.
Malaifeope challenged people spreading false information to produce the evidence or shut up.
“There are all sorts of stories  I’m hearing and I want to warn whoever is doing this to stop immediately,” Malaifeope said.
He said polling in Sohe and Iijivitari were running smoothly and he was confident that polling should end by tomorrow.
He said there would be a training for counting officials on Saturday. and counting would begin on Sunday.
There are 28 boxes to be counted for Sohe and 31 for  Iijivitari.
“I’m expecting the counting period to be less than two weeks and anyone who wants to enter the counting venue must have a pass,” Malaifeope said.
He said security officers and scrutineers  were exempted.
“Supporters of candidates will be restricted from coming into the counting venue.
“I don’t expect people to camp outside the counting venues at Higaturu council chambers and Popondetta High School.
“Because from past experience nothing like that has happened so no camping is expected.”
